What is Strength Training?
Strength training is a fitness class at MissionFIIT involves performing physical exercises designed to improve strength and endurance. It is often associated with lifting weights, but it also includes using resistance bands, kettlebells, and your own body weight. At MissionFIIT Activity Hub in Hailsham, our strength sessions focus on functional movements—squats, deadlifts, and presses—that help you build a solid physical foundation. It’s not about becoming a "bodybuilder"; it’s about making your body stronger, leaner, and more capable for everyday life.
How and what it affects in the body
Strength training is one of the most transformative things you can do for your health. By putting your muscles under controlled tension, you create microscopic tears that the body repairs, making the muscle fibers thicker and stronger. This process increases your "lean mass," which is metabolically active—meaning you burn more calories even while resting. Furthermore, strength training is essential for bone health; the stress placed on bones during lifting increases bone density, which is vital for long-term injury prevention and skeletal health.
