My Story: 5 Great Lessons from My MissionFIIT Fitness Journey

“I felt completely disconnected from my physical self”

My journey into the world of health and wellbeing was not a simple, linear path. Like many people, I experienced a period in my life where I felt completely disconnected from my physical self.

Ten years ago, while I was navigating the pressures of university life, the active lifestyle I had always known began to fade away. Between academic deadlines and the lack of a structured routine, I lost my passion for fitness, gained weight, and felt increasingly unhappy.

My Story at that time was one of low energy and even lower motivation – a cycle that many find themselves trapped in today.

My Story with Fitness Began with a Challenge…

When I finally moved back home after graduation, I knew I needed a change, but the path back to health felt overwhelming.

It was my dad who played the most vital role in the next chapter of My Story.

Instead of suggesting intense, daunting workouts, he encouraged me to start small. We began with long walks and cycling trips through the local countryside. These moments were transformative; they weren’t just about physical movement but about clearing my mind and rediscovering the simple joy of being outdoors.

As local gyms began to reopen, I took the step to sign back up. However, I quickly realised that the traditional, solitary gym environment wasn’t for me.

I started attending group sessions and found that I thrived on the collective energy of others. This was the moment I truly got my mojo back. Seeing the profound impact that movement had on my mental health -thanks to the support of my dad and the community – I felt a calling to help others rewrite their own fitness narratives.

Finding Strength Through Community

One of the most common things I hear is that “the gym is boring.” I completely agree – if you are just staring at a wall on a treadmill, it can be.

In My Story, the gym alone was never the catalyst for change; it was the community, the music, and the shared motivation of fitness classes. This realisation is what led me to establish my own business. I wanted to create a space where exercise felt like a highlight of the day rather than a chore on a to-do list.

This vision became the foundation for the MissionFIIT Activity Hub in Hailsham.

My mission is to help as many people as possible find their own unique love for movement. Whether you prefer the rhythm of Fitness Classes like dance and HIIT, or the focus of Personal Training, there is a place for you here.

How My Story Led to the MissionFIIT Activity Hub

Setting up the hub was about more than just equipment; it was about building a comfortable, motivating environment for the whole family.

Today, we offer a diverse timetable including boxing, Pilates, and yoga. We have even expanded into the Kidszone, hosting birthday parties and bouncy castle sessions to ensure fitness is a family affair.

For those looking for a mental challenge alongside the physical, we even launched an escape room – The Gamblers’ Den.

The core of My Story is about finding what moves you. Regular physical activity has been proven by organisations like the NHS to significantly improve both physical and mental health. I am here to guide you toward a happier life by making that first step as welcoming as possible.
